Why Everyone Should Write (Yes, That Means You!)

Writing isn’t reserved for the “special,” the well-known, or the professional. I’ve been fortunate enough to have my work published worldwide, ghostwritten books that have brought in big bucks, and sold a good number of my own books, too. But none of that makes me inherently “special.” What I’ve learned is that we all have stories only we can tell. As we grow, our stories deepen, evolve, and endlessly renew, becoming a rich wellspring for creativity. That’s the beauty of it—material for writing is forever.

Everyone Has a Unique Story to Tell

Many people feel they need permission or credentials to write, but here’s a secret: some of the most profound stories come from people who simply put their heart into words. Each of us has a perspective, experiences, dreams, and wisdom no one else has. Every life has its share of beauty and chaos, and there’s power in capturing it all—messy or polished. There’s a reason our voices are our own, and writing allows us to give that voice a place to live outside our minds.

The Power of Words

Writing has opened so many doors for me—some literal, others beautifully intangible. It’s helped me connect with people across the world, express what my heart sometimes couldn’t, and make sense of life’s twists and turns. Words are like keys; they unlock doors to self-discovery, new friendships, even entire careers. And the best part? It’s available to everyone. There’s no magic trick to becoming a writer; you simply start.

And What About Fiction?

Writing fiction lets us expand beyond our daily lives to explore worlds that only exist in our minds. It’s our chance to dream big, live multiple lives, and try out endless “what ifs.” Fiction doesn’t require specialness; it just requires imagination and a willingness to dive in. We can all invent characters and create places that feel as real as any street we’ve ever walked down.

So, Why Not Start?

Take it from someone who’s been paid well to write and has loved every word of it, and who also knows the quiet magic of jotting down thoughts just for herself. You don’t need fame or followers to write. Your words have the power to connect, transform, and maybe even heal. Write for yourself, write for the world, write because you have a voice that deserves to be heard.
