In the past few weeks, an exhilarating wave of inspiration has swept over me, carrying me into a realm of creativity that I hadn’t anticipated.
The spark that ignites the creative flame has been burning bright, and every moment seems to be infused with the possibility of new ideas, stories, and expressions. Yay!
As I navigate this surge of creative energy, a significant part of it is attributed to a unique challenge – editing a book for a new client in a genre with which I’m not entirely familiar. This endeavour has not only broadened my horizons but has also made me dig deep into my own creative potential. The process of understanding and enhancing the narrative in an unfamiliar genre has been a fascinating journey of exploration and growth.
If you find yourself in a space of creative blockage, here are a few ideas to break through creative barriers:
- Change of Environment: Shake things up a bit! Whether it’s stepping outside for a breath of fresh air, exploring a new café, or simply rearranging your workspace, changing your surroundings can work wonders. For instance, I recently took my laptop to a bird park, and the sounds of nature inspired a whole new chapter in my ongoing project.
- Collaborate: Join forces with fellow creatives! Working on collaborative projects not only fosters a sense of community but can also lead to unexpected and inspiring outcomes. Last month I collaborated with a European photographer on an art project, blending words and images to create something truly unique.
- Explore New Mediums: Break out of your creative comfort zone! If you’re a writer, why not try your hand at visual arts? If you’re a painter, experiment with writing. I recently ventured into some Yiddish choir music. *Don’t ask!, ha ha!* It was funny and so good for the soul.
- Revisit Old Creations: Don’t underestimate the power of nostalgia! Take a stroll down memory lane by revisiting your previous works. Recently, I delved into my old poetry collection, and the emotions and themes from those pieces inspired a fresh perspective, leading to the creation of some new, evocative poems.
I have an invitation for those seeking a personalised touch on their creative journey. If you’re feeling creatively blocked or simply crave some one-on-one inspiration, I’m here for you.

Reach out, and let’s embark on a conversation. Share your challenges, aspirations, or current book idea and together, we can unlock the doors to your creative potential.
